9years of connecting cities and learners

Founded in 2015, merxtechnology started with a question: how do we make urban ecology accessible to anyone with curiosity? We built a platform where quizzes meet real environmental challenges, where students test their understanding of green infrastructure, biodiversity corridors, and sustainable urban planning through interactive scenarios.

What drives us

Cities are living systems, not concrete jungles. Understanding how nature and urban spaces intersect isn't optional anymore.

We started merxtechnology because traditional environmental education felt disconnected from the places people actually live. Textbooks showed pristine forests, but students lived surrounded by buildings, traffic, and pavement. They needed to understand the ecology happening right outside their windows.

Our platform turns urban environments into learning laboratories. Each quiz presents real scenarios: a vacant lot becoming a community garden, a highway median transformed into a pollinator pathway, rooftops collecting rainwater instead of sending it to overwhelmed storm drains. Students don't just memorize concepts, they apply them to situations they recognize.

The gamification isn't decoration. Points and progress tracking tap into the same motivation that keeps people engaged with games, but here the reward is understanding how cities can support both human and ecological health. Instant feedback shows not just whether an answer is correct, but why certain approaches work better in dense urban contexts.

How we approach learning

Context matters more than memorization

Every city has different climate conditions, existing infrastructure, and community needs. Our content reflects that complexity rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions.

Mistakes are part of the process

Wrong answers trigger explanations, not penalties. Understanding why a bioswale fails in clay soil teaches more than getting the answer right the first time.

Engagement requires relevance

We design scenarios around decisions people actually face: where to plant street trees, how to reduce heat island effects, whether green roofs make economic sense in different climates.
